Cassandra in Reverse by Holly Smale
In the darkest hours before dawn, the goddess Eos would rise (often reluctantly) from her couch and announce the sun to the other gods. She would open the gates of the sky to allow her brother, the sun god Helios, to pass through the sky in his chariot. This is the process of therapy. Each of us has work to do and the work of the therapist is to enter into the dark moments of life and to help open the gates. The client's work is to pass through and light up their world. As a therapist I never presume to know what's best, you are the expert in your own life, I simply use my training, intuition, and experience (and often times humor) to open the gates.
While I love the image as Eos as a therapist, I've noticed my clients are often embody the spirit of Eos themselves. Eos, cursed by Aphrodite, was doomed to a truly gruesome love life. Nevertheless, Eos was assertive, sassy, and resourceful even as she was seen by the other gods as a bit of a hot mess. Eos never gave up and valued relationships above fear and anxiety. And... when all else failed... she took the initiative to turn her very old, and somewhat irritating, husband into a cricket.
If this sounds like you, welcome. You belong here.
